Modifiers
A modifier
is a word, phrase, or clause that describes something or makes its meaning more
specific. Modifiers
function as adjectives or adverbs.
ADJECTIVE MODIFIERS
Los modifiers se usan para calificar a un adjetivo.
Son varios los modifiers siendo los más comunes desde menos a más:
very
little — a bit — quite — (fairly, pretty, sort of, kind of,
somewhat) very, really, incredibly
– The teacher is a bit fat.
– That boy is very tall.
– The test was quite difficult.
– Francisco was really tired.
– That boy is very tall.
– The test was quite difficult.
– Francisco was really tired.
*** Como veréis, los MODIFIERS se usan antes del adjetivo para darle
mayor o menor fuerza. NO SE USAN ANTES DE SUSTANTIVOS.
A bit
We only use a bit before negative adjectives and
adverbs, e.g. a bit difficult, a bit slowly
Quite.
“He is quite tall” — Es bastante alto. Hay
otras alternativas para QUITE. Se puede decir en lugar de quite: pretty o
fairly.
